FREE FROM SMOKING CAMPAIGN
- JULY 2001

K. Bala was shocked to learn that students as young as eight years have picked up the smoking habit.

This has prompted him to organize a campaign together with the Lions Club (KL West) known as “Free From Smoking” Campaign.

It was launched by YB Datuk Lee Lam Thye on 29th July 2001.

This campaign was supported by the Federal Territory Education Department and a total of 480 students from 18 schools took part in this campaign. So far the results were very encouraging but the road to success is long and difficult.

K. Bala, who conducted the training session talked about the dangers of cigarette smoking and how prolong smoking will affect their health.  As part of his efforts to kerb the smoking habit, K. Bala stated that the media can do their part by refusing to advertise cigarette advertisements and instead to highlight the dangers of smoking.
