The
Paediatric Ward One at the Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM)
has literally become the latest "child star" attarction with the
opening of the "Lions-HUKM Toy Library (LHTL) recently.
Donations from the public and Lions Club members have helped make the project a reality. The library, a new addition to the existing playroom at the ward, will create a homely atmosphere for children at the ward. Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur (West) president, Edmund Foo said organising committee chairman, K. Balasupramaniam and 17 members from the Malaysian Volunteer Fire & Rescue Associates took three days to set it up. "We are proud to be in the project tat will help the children to forget their sufferings during their stay here. The toys can comfort the children and at the same time, be useful educational tools.' he said. HUKM director Professor Dr Zulkifli Ismail said children would recover faster in a firendly surrounding. He said staying in a hospital can be a terrifying experience for a child as the familiar environment of home has been taken away.
