This campaign is a long-term fire prevention programme with a two-fold objective:- 1. To create a new safety culture amongst fellow Malaysians. 2. To reduce substantially fire occurrences both at home and at the work-place. It was officially launched by YB Datuk Lee Lam Thye on 3rd April, 2000. In his opening speech, Datuk Lee stressed the need for a drastic change in the Malaysian attitude; from a “tiada apa” attitude to one that is safety conscious. In order to achieve this objective, K. Balasupramaniam called upon Malaysians from all walks of life to participate whole-heartily in this programme. They are to strive towards ensuring that they as well as members of their family are aware of the dangers of fire. They have to take steps to prevent house-fires, maintain proper discipline regarding storage of hazardous materials such as cooking-gas cylinders, petrol, petroleum products etc. The house-owners were encouraged to install smoke-detectors as well as fire-extinguishers in their homes. He also called on the various Government departments and non-government agencies to lend their full support to make this a success.
